Housed at the Community College Research Center, NCPR is the nation's premier federally funded research center on higher education. Below is information on NCPR's participating partners and researchers.

The Community College Research Center (CCRC) is the leading independent authority on the nation's nearly 1,200 two-year colleges. Since its inception, CCRC's researchers have strategically assessed the problems and performances of community colleges. CCRC's mission is to conduct research on the major issues affecting community colleges in the United States and to contribute to the development of practice and policy that expands access to higher education and promotes success for all students.

CCRC's extensive body of research provides a strong foundation on which to build new policies and initiatives to improve the outcomes of two-year institutions, which are so integral to our country's higher education system, employment landscape, and economy.

Created in 1974 by the Ford Foundation and a group of federal agencies, MDRC is a nonprofit, nonpartisan education and social policy research organization dedicated to learning what works to improve programs and policies that affect the poor. MDRC designs and studies new approaches to the problems confronting public education; low-income children, families, and communities; and low-wage workers and people with serious barriers to employment. In addition to participating in the National Center on Postsecondary Research, MDRC is currently conducting five studies designed to increase persistence and academic achievement among community college students.

One of the missions of the Curry School of Education is to prepare personnel to work in America's educational system, pre-kindergarten through collegiate levels, and to conduct research and scholarship that address problems and issues of importance to our educational system. To understand and address the needs of higher education, the University of Virginia set up the Center for the Study of Higher Education in the Curry School of Education. The Center, an instructional, research, and service unit, provides college, university, and adult education leaders with the opportunity to explore established and emerging practices and policies in higher education, to analyze current issues and programs, and to think critically about institutional priorities and commitments.

National Center for Postsecondary Research Affiliates

Bridget Terry Long is an Associate Professor of Economics and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Using the theory and methods of economics, she is an expert on various aspects of higher education, including student access and choice, financial aid, the role of colleges in student outcomes, and the behavior of postsecondary institutions.
